Public Service Announcements starring Scouts from National Pike: TV Spot on Fox News featuring Scouts from Crew 944 and Troop 944: Thanksk to the following schools for promoting Scouting for Food in their newsletter: Atholton ES Atholton HS IDEAS 1. Have local businesses promote Scouting for Food on their outdoor marquis and/or signs. 2. The Friday before SFF Day (March 5 this year), stand at the entrances of neighborhoods where you will be picking up food with a sign reminding neighbors to put our their food. 3. Staple a note to every bag (see sample) before distribution explaining what the bag is for and have a boy/girl in your unit sign it. A Word template of this note can be downloaded from below. 4. Pack 361 added a list of items that are needed at the food pantries on the back of the aforementioned note. A Word template of this note and list can be downloaded from below. 5. Publicity helps. Announcements can be placed in local papers saying that the drive is coming. 6. Knock on doors and hand out the bags. This works better than leaving them out near the mail box. 7. One group put the explanatory flyer in the bag along with scout recruitment materials. 8. "Hoodie" style sweatshirts with a pocket on the front can be used to carry a roll of the bags so that they don't blow away. 9. Go to the Maryland Food Bank web site (http://www.mdfoodbank.org/) and click on the "Hunger 101" section there. That takes you to a program where you select 1 of 4 people in different situations to be and then you try to put together enough calories to sustain you (and your family) for the week. It's a real eye opener and really brings the hunger issue to a level where the kids can appreciate the problem. 10. Troop 361 uses attaches a note on their bags (see "Note for Bag T361.doc) below. |
