Madagascar 2009

BNourish International (NI) will partner with Blue Ventures Group (BVG) to implement a project in Andavadoaka, MADAGASCAR!  BVG is an NGO that has been researching and promoting environmental conservation and sustainable development in this region since 2003.

NI students will work with BVG’s  Womens Associations (WAs), which were established in order to provide the women with alternative livelihoods that do not degrade the environment.

Each WA member attends regular meetings and pays a small monthly fee that is saved in the communal account.  Currently the WAs’ primary businesses are their craft production and catering/entertainment services.

Nourish students will work with the WAs in Madagascar this summer as business consultants, because, students are, after all, “expert consumers!”

The main facets of the NI-BVG project deal with:

  • Developing and improving the quality of their product line
  • Development of basic business skills
  • Development of language skills
  • Increased capacity of the catering and entertainment package.

This project provides a great opportunity for students to engage in research, leadership, service-learning, and so much more!  The duration of the project is ~ 8 weeks.  Exact dates to be determined.  Contact Maggie Salinger at: salinger@email.unc.edu
