Christmas Competition and Annual Awards

posted 16 Dec 2010 04:17 by admin NottsBushido

15th December 2010

Last night we had our area Christmas judo competition and annual awards presentation.

The competition was one of the busiest we have had prompting perhaps a move to a bigger venue for next year. It is brilliant to see all the area clubs so well represented.

Well done to all who took part, the standard of judo was as good as ever.  There were several fights that were over in seconds with some excellent ippon throws as well as some longer and very hard fought fights.  This is very encouraging for all of next years competitions that we hope will be just as well attended by our area.

As usual our annual awards were presented after the competition and our special congratulations go to the following trophy winners for 2010.

Paul Robinson's Best Technique Award winner is Oliver Avison (koshi-guruma).
Mark Avison's Judo Student of the Year winner is Kirsten Wales.
Darren Weaver's Karate Student of the Year winner is Abbie Mosley.
Adi Mellers Continued Effort Trophy winner is Mark Miles.
Nigel Deakin's Determination and Improvement Trophy winner is James Marriott.
Sensei Keith Henson's Fighting Spirit Award winner is Sam Hind.
Sensei Charles Fletcher Trophy winner is Gareth Davis.

Area Gradings

December 2010

A big well done to all the Juniors in the area that took their gradings during December.  You all worked hard and the standard was very good.

It is brilliant to see Harry Nugent, George Nugent, Lewis Butler, Kirsten Wales and Shauna Radford all get to yellow belt. Next grading should see several others get to yellow too.

Congratulations also go to Ashley French on getting his senior 5th kyu and to Nicola Cartwright on passing her grading and being promoted to senior 4th kyu.

There were also several grades awarded at our annual Christmas party some to the surprise of the recipients. So again more congratulations go to Shannon Stevenson for junior blue, James Marriott for senior brown and especially to Ian Crichton on his 1st Dan.

There were also two very special 4th Dan grades awarded on that night. One to Sensei Paul Robinson for judo and other to Sensei Darren Weaver for karate. Very well done to them both for achieving such high grades.

Next year promises to be see the standard of martial arts in the area continue to rise so we look forward to lots more hard work and dedication from all. And once more congratulations to you all and thanks for all the hard work you have obviously been putting in.

A fantastic day was had and we hope you all enjoyed you day as much as we did. The standard of judo was superb and behaviour of all the kids (and adults!) exceptional.

We would like to thank all those who helped us on the day by refereeing, timekeeping, signing people in, handing out trophies, organising refreshments and moving mats.

Thanks again. Please come and join us once more in September for what is shaping up to brilliant martial arts weekend.

It is great to see all their hard work and determination pay off and for them both to move along and make space for some more kyu grades on the mat.
