TRAVELLERS: DELIVER A SUITCASE If you would like to deliver a suitcase of medical supplies and medicine on your trip to Cuba, then please e-mail us at info@njtlondon.org. We will send you the Record of Traveller Form to complete and submit as and e-mail attachment. (We will soon upgrade the capacity of our site so the form can be downloaded). We require the completed form one week before your departure and may not be able to serve requests that are received without adequate notice. Full suitcases normally weigh 10 kilograms or less and must be picked up by travellers at our London storage location (we do not deliver suitcases to travellers). A letter signed by a Canadian doctor is included in each suitcase advising customs officials that the traveller is transporting the medicine to a medical facility in the country of destination. This practice conforms to both Canadian law and the law of the recipient countries. Travellers are asked to have the letter signed by the official receiving the suitcase of donations. On their return to Canada, they are asked to mail the signed form to the address on the letterhead. Note: Travellers are cautioned that the suitcase of medicines will form part of their personal baggage weight allowance. However, some airlines allow passengers to carry extra humanitarian aid in addition to the standard weight allowance at no extra charge. Travellers are advised to contact their airline in advance to confirm this policy. As much as we would like to, we simply cannot fill special requests from Cuban doctors with respect to the contents of the suitcases. The logistics of filling individual wish lists are extremely complicated and we are limited by the donations we receive. When you have returned from your trip, we would love to hear about your experience! Feel free to contact us via the Feedback Form. We ask that you give us at least one week's notice when requesting a suitcase, if possible.
DONATIONS Donations of medical supplies, etc.: If you are a health professional, who works in a hospital, clinic or pharmacy, or are in a position to donate items which can be sent as humanitarian medical aid, we gratefully accept donations of medical supplies, medical equipment, and new medicines in their original packaging (except for those which have expired). You can contact us by phone or email to arrange to deliver your items or to have us pick them up. Please see Guidelines for Donated Material.
Donations of suitcases: We also accept donations of used suitcases. Suitcases should be clean, not too heavy or large, close easily, and be neither broken nor badly torn. Again contact us to arrange to deliver them or to have someone get them from you. VOLUNTEERS We will soon be calling for volunteers to help with various tasks for NJT London. Please watch the site for further information, as we get our operations fully established in the coming weeks. |
