All about Prada

UH HR Can. CH Kalmegess Notagucci CD WCX (Prada)
Prada is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever and is owned and loved by Dave & Meaghan Campbell.
She was born January 28, 2009 and came to us from Kalmegess Kennels which is located in Courtice, Ontario, Canada.

She was one of eight puppies from the "Designer litter" out of
And

This litter was the first for Kalmegess Kennels, and a fabulous litter it has turned out to be. Boosting 4 Conformation Champions, one taking a BOSS, and one a BPIG.  Lua is enjoying agility/obedience and some field training. Morleigh is doing some field, and Prada is active in anything I can make time for!

Terri & Mike Newey ( Sedona ), and Chris Choi (Ketch), are amazing owner, breeders!  Meaghan and I formed a fast friendship with them and continue that friendship to this day.

Our primary goal with Prada was a pet.  We did show interest in getting involved with dog sports/events, we had no idea how far it would take us!
I learned quickly how smart a toller really is!  Prada came to us at 8 weeks, able to sit, shake a paw, and retrieve to hand.  I have been lucky (with training), to keep Prada a fairly quiet dog. No whining, very little barking, and I have not heard a toller Scream come out of her yet!
I trained Prada 3 times a day, ( much help from mom at lunch time !!)
She quickly learned other tricks, roll-over, stand-up, spin (both ways), down,
speak, and of course stay.  As an Adult she learned to jump into my arms if I say "The dog catcher is coming".
She'll ignore food placed on her nose, paws and even between her teeth until told "okay".  Sit now means sit until told otherwise, but I still use stay on downs and stands.

Prada was always a bit of a ..wild child.. she was highly active, very excitable and slow to calm down ( energy wise). We kept hearing of this off-switch Tollers usually have in the house. I was pushing that dog everywhere, I couldn't find any off switch!
Twice daily to the park as well as walks. Before her recall was sound, I relied on 150 foot ropes so she felt free to run. She has loved to retrieve from about 12 weeks old.

Prada entered the first show ring at 8 months. She completed her Canadian Conformation Championship 11 days shy of her first birthday. She made group and puppy group quite a few times, even making the cut multiple times, but that was as close to a group placement as she got.

I have always been a little strict with Prada, she is the kind of dog, if you give an inch, she'll take 40 miles! She gets plenty of play time, but more in training.

Around 15 months old, she was introduced to her first bird and field training.
I was introduced to a AMAZING mentor, Liz Macpherson from bobcaygeon, Ontario.  She of course has shown me how, and given me invaluable advice at each step of my field training adventure.

Instructed to buy and watch, Mike Lardy's training DVD's as well as read his Retriever Journal Vol 1 ( I also bought 2 and 3 ).
I purchased Carol Cassity's Building a Retriever.
We joined the Lake Ontario Hunting Retriever Club and met a ton of other experienced trainers.

I purchased, a Tri tronics Pro 500 ecollar for field training and force fetched my own dog!  Quite an accomplishment for a person that just wanted a pet :)

Prada excels in the field and she loves every minute of it.

In the future, I would love to try other activities/tests outside of field with Prada, like Tracking, Canine Good Neighbor, Rally, maybe continuing in higher levels of Obedience as well.
