Thompson Island Outward Bound Summer Expeditions: http://www.thompsonisland.org/english/youth/summer
Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center is a not-for-profit organization that provides outdoor adventure and experiential learning programs for young people from diverse economic backgrounds. Our programs are designed to inspire leadership and teamwork in the youth we serve. Located in the Boston Harbor Islands National Park Area, Thompson Island is a unique destination for work or play.

For more than 60 years, Outward Bound has been delivering adventure and challenge-based courses to youth worldwide. Grounded in the educational philosophy of its founder, Kurt Hahn, the Outward Bound experience seeks to empower young people through hands-on experiences. Hahn believed “the aim of education is to inspire an enterprising curiosity, an undefeatable spirit, tenacity in pursuit, readiness for sensible self-denial and, above all, compassion."

Using the wilderness as a classroom, Outward Bound guides students through a journey of self-discovery. By combining learning-by-doing, adventure, challenge and fun within a diverse group of students, we set the stage for them to explore their possibilities as leaders, problem solvers, and responsible citizens of the world community.

Dates of program: June 28 to August 8, 2009
High school students in grades 9 through 12, who will be 14 years old by June 28, may apply.

PROMYS is a challenging six-week summer program at Boston University designed to encourage ambitious high school students to explore the creative world of mathematics. Through their intensive efforts to solve an assortment of unusually challenging problems in Number Theory, participants will practice the art of mathematical discovery.

PROMYS is dedicated to the principle that no one will be unable to attend for financial reasons. In addition to generous contributions from The MathWorks, Inc. to provide need-based support for high school students, we also offer merit-based scholarships. This year we are proud to announce that the American Mathematical Society (AMS) is offering a full scholarship to a high school student, called the Ky and Yu-fen Fan Scholarship. In addition, PROMYS will be granting two scholarships (to one male and one female student) among American Regions Math League (ARML) participants who qualify for the program. SIG provides academically advanced students with an interesting and challenging educational experience. The program combines remarkable academic courses with cultural, social, and recreational opportunities. The academic program is central to the design and purpose of SIG. Our program provides students with academic challenges designed to fit their abilities and interests. It also provides them with the opportunity to engage with other students who have similar abilities and interests. Because of our small classes, low teacher-student ratio, and teaching assistants, we are able to individualize the program for each and every student.

Meeting other diverse students who are interested in learning provides a sense of belonging that many gifted students seek. The richness of a broad range of geographical, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, the stimulation created by talented and intellectually engaged students working and playing together, the depth and diversity of the SIG faculty and staff, and the beautiful and well-equipped college campus environments create a perfect atmosphere for learning, growing and accomplishing meaningful goals.

SIG programs are held at Amherst College (http://giftedstudy.com/residential/amherst/index.asp), Bryn Mawr College, Emory University, Princeton University, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UT Austin, Vassar College, and other prestigious colleges and universities.

SIG faculty includes college and university professors, educators of the gifted, professional practitioners, and experts from specific fields, with degrees from Columbia University, Harvard University, Cornell University, and other excellent colleges and universities.

Cambridge College Programme at University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England:

This year is the 23rd Anniversary of The Cambridge College Programme. Over the years parents have sent their sons and daughters to this highly acclaimed program for both academic and social growth during their high school years. Those who are admitted choose from two, three week programmes: The Academic Programme or the International Leadership Programme. A week-long Paris excursion may also be added to either option.

Since the inception of the Cambridge College Programme, it has been the goal to not only offer challenging academic courses, but also to incorporate an in-depth course study through lectures and excursions to expose scholars to both cultural and historic venues, which will broaden their horizons during their stay in England. We are proud to anounce that the Summer 2009 Programme has 65 course offerings.

Students in both the Academic and Leadership Programmes will become very familir with the city of Cambridge, one of the most important—and picturesque—towns in England. It is the county town of Cambridgeshire and the seat of one of the oldest universities in the British Isles. From the 14th century onwards, the University of Cambridge began to develop in earnest as its colleges were founded by noble families, influential churchmen, town guilds, and royalty.

Please navigate through this site to learn more about the Cambridge College Programme.

Each student's program is developed to support individually established Primary Goals. Any three-course combination will promote improved study habits, study skills, organization and confidence.

Sustained focus and productivity are fostered by a traditional paper and pencil approach and further supported by the absence of computer, internet and cell phone distractions. The emphasis in all courses is on sequential process, neatness and attention to detail in written work.

As a condensed academic program partnered with a full activities program, time is a precious commodity at Wolfeboro. Delineated expectations for student behavior are provided to not only assure a safe and wholesome community, but to assure the time and efforts of all can be focused in positive and productive ways. It is the intent of the Board of Directors that Wolfeboro provide a structured and purposeful approach to both scholastic work and to the quality of student life.

The School believes that a student functions best in an environment in which all expectations are clearly understood. A Student Handbook of Policies and Procedures detailing required student conduct and the School’s methods of operation is sent to each individual who inquires about the School. A thorough understanding and acceptance of the Handbook’s contents is essential, as the School is proudly firm in all areas of student accountability.

Respect, accountability and responsibility for self, for others, and for the community as a whole are keystones to Wolfeboro's philosophy. The School reserves the right to dismiss any student at any time for violation of rules and regulations or whose behavior has a negative influence on the positive spirit of The Wolfeboro Experience.

Teen summer camps, scuba camps, carribean sailing camps, marine biology, and teen travel

Broadreach offers unsurpassed experiential summer adventures for teenagers including scuba, sailing, multi-sport and wilderness programs that span the globe. Our academic adventure and community service division, Academic Treks, also offers hands-on marine biology, language immersion and community service expeditions that qualify for college credit. Each year we take over 800 teenagers to some of the world's most incredible destinations including the islands of the Caribbean, Australia, Fiji, Egypt, Central and South America, China, France, Canada and the Bahamas. We are immensely proud of our reputation as the best and most trusted name in teenage experiential adventure programs, and we continue to broaden the breadth and scope of the unparalleled opportunities we offer young adults.

Broadreach's educational adventures provide opportunities for teenagers to learn new skills and explore the world in an active, hands-on environment that fully immerses the participant in the experience. Each trip has its own blend of discoveries and challenges, designed to take advantage of the unique character and opportunities of the regions we visit. Combining the thrill of discovery, the pride of accomplishment and the excitement of exploration, Broadreach programs focus on individual initiative, group dynamics and genuine participation in the world.

Broadreach is not a teen tour or traditional summer camp. We don't travel in buses, large groups or flotillas of sailboats. The cornerstone of our program design and philosophy is our small group size of just 10-14 participants. Living in a small group promotes teamwork, leadership, compromise and consideration, teaching important lessons applicable to life that will last long after the program is over. Opportunities are created not only by our course design, but by the group itself. Staff and students come together as a team to make the adventure happen. Our staff gives participants individual attention and helps to shape the trip around the goals and abilities of the group. In a small group, you can relax and be yourself. The supportive, non-competitive atmosphere created allows participants to appreciate others for who they are and make close friendships with people who have diverse interests and backgrounds.

Broadreachers do things they never thought they would do, see places they never thought they would see and explore our world on a level they never could with their family or on their own. We have programs for most abilities and interests and no experience is required for many of our trips. Just come with a desire to try new things and broaden your experiences!

Educational Summer Camps and Community Service Summer Programs for Teenagers

Academic Treks, a division of Broadreach, offers college-accredited summer adventures abroad for high school students. Backed by sixteen years of experience in running educational programs for thousands of teenagers, Academic Treks combines the finest elements of experiential learning, traditional classroom learning and service learning with wilderness adventure, international travel and cultural exchange to create extraordinary expeditions.

On each dynamic journey, students explore unique environments and cultures while studying marine science or a foreign language or embarking on an intensive community service adventure. Each course includes an important community service component, and several include a significant emphasis (up to 55 hours) on service work. Academic Treks students are fully immersed in an educational experience in a real world setting, gaining a global perspective and hands-on understanding of the topics studied. They also get a head start on college by earning college and/or community service credit and by building a host of skills they will use both in school and beyond.

Interwoven in the Academic Treks experience are the themes of teamwork, leadership and personal growth. Together with your team of 9–12 adventurers, you will take on challenges, master new skills, build confidence and gain insights into yourself, the world around you and your role as a world citizen. You will leave with a sense of achievement, an awareness of your own potential and an acceptance of different ideas, beliefs and cultures.

We encourage you to explore our website including the trip journals, videos, photo albums, updated itineraries and answers to frequently asked questions. Call us so we can help you choose the program that best meets your goals and interests. Lastly, we recommend that you call references to hear firsthand about our courses from past Academic Treks families.

Join us this summer for an unforgettable adventure. Bring a thirst to learn and have fun, and a desire to open your heart and mind to new people, places and experiences. See the world in a different light, achieve things you never thought possible, make lasting friendships, and learn by doing and experiencing with incredible environments as your classrooms.
