SC Picture Book Award is sponsored by the SC Association of School Librarians. Each year a committee of librarians, teachers, parents and students read over 150 books that have been recommended to be considered as SCPBA nominees. Each committee member evaulates and votes on each book. The list is then narrowed down to the top 20. SC students in grades K-2 are then encouraged to read or have read to them the 20 nominee books and vote on their favorite. Our media center has multiple copies of the books. They can also be checked out at the public library, purchased at area bookstores and our upcoming bookfair. Students must read at least 3 nominee books by February 13, 2010 to be eligible to vote. Votes are tallied state-wide with the top vote-getter earning the prestigious SC Picture Book Award.
To encourage participation, the media center will give students a small prize after 3 of the books have been read to them (K & 1st). Second graders may also earn a small prize for each book they read independently and take an AR test on. Students will continue to earn prizes until the end of the school year.
