Winter Vacation

December: Principal Zacchilli's Message

The weather outside is ……………actually it is a beautiful November day! It is hard to believe that this is the last Good News Bear of 2009! I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for your attendance at our November Parent Conference Day. Our teachers are very appreciative of your support! Your attendance at concerts, PTA programs, activities, etc. is an important component in the overall academic success of your children. Also, thanks to the many wonderful volunteers who provided lunch for our teachers during the November 20th Conference Day. As usual, everyone went above and beyond the call of duty. Special thanks to Marci Crowley for her leadership and organization of this wonderful event.

Dressing for Winter Recess
As you know, our playground area becomes quite wet and icy during the winter months. Also, students will continue to use the upper field throughout the winter for recess. In order for students to play in the snow they must be properly dressed. Snowsuits, boots, mittens, and hats are required. We do like to go outside and generally do so unless the temperatures are too severe. Students who are not properly dressed may only use the paved areas and will not be allowed on the snow-covered upper field, or playground area.

Winter Concert
Our annual Winter Concert will be held on Monday, December 7th, 7:00 p.m. at Londonderry Middle School. We will also have a school-wide assembly concert that same afternoon (December 7th) in the North School Gymnasium. Our band, chorus, and string ensemble students have been working very hard in preparation for this performance. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

PBIS Update
Our PBIS Bear Tracks to Success Program continues to be an important part of our school culture here at North School. We recognized students who received stickers for following school-wide expectations in the hallway, bathrooms, and cafeteria, by taking grade level photographs which are proudly displayed in the front lobby.

PBIS Update (continued)
We will continue to seek ways to recognize students for positive behaviors through raffles, special events, etc. We are in the process of coordinating our next “roll-out assembly”, which will target student behavior at school-wide assembly programs. Students will understand behavioral expectations in this area with regards to Respect, Responsibility, and Safety!

Student Attendance
With the recent outbreak of influenza, it is essential that parents keep students home when they show signs of illness. We certainly appreciated the efforts and cooperation of all parents during the November “outbreak”. Hopefully everyone will be healthy for the holiday season! I also wanted to remind parents of the importance of school attendance on a regular basis. Attendance in school is an essential part of the learning process. With that in mind, I would ask again for your cooperation with regards to family trips and vacations. I would urge all parents to plan family trips during school vacations so as not to interfere with the learning process. Missing school for a family vacation is strongly discouraged. We urge all students and parents to strive for excellent attendance as that will ensure maximum scholastic performance.

Student Drop-Off (Morning Hours)
I wanted to remind everyone that the student drop-off area is on the roadway in front of the building. Please do not drop off students in the lower parking lot, as this presents an unsafe situation for your children. Students would have to walk in front of buses and through traffic on the roadway to get to their recess area. Please remain on the roadway and wait until a duty teacher or crossing guard is visible before dropping off in front of the building. Your cooperation is appreciated!

In closing, I would like to wish you a very happy, safe, and peaceful Holiday Season!! A reminder that Wednesday, December 23rd is the last day before Winter Break. School resumes on Monday, January 4th. See you in 2010!!
