Typical Meeting

At North Melbourne Toastmasters our meetings typically run in the same structure.  The structure looks like this and gives a wide variety of roles to a number of people...


SERGEANT AT ARMS
    * Calls the meeting to order

PRESIDENT  
    * Brings up news and welcome
    * Introduces the Toastmaster for the meeting

TOASTMASTER
    * Introduces people who have filled Roles
      (Ah-Counter, Timekeeper, etc.)

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
The designated speaker offers a short quotation or reflection intended to give members of the audience something worthwhile to contemplate.

WORD MASTER / GRAMMARIAN
Typically will select the Word of the Day for the meeting, and will keep track of its usage by those members who have a speaking role in the meeting.  Give the meaning and use the word in a sentence to illustrate correct usage and pronunciation.

ROUND ROBIN
Round robin is a warm-up session which gives each person present at the meeting an opportunity to introduce themself, and proceed with their contribution.  The contribution need only be two or three sentances.
    * Explain The Round Robin
    * Conduct the session
    * Return control to the Toastmaster

TABLE TOPICS
The Table Topics session is designed to provide respondents with the opportunity to gain experience in, and develop expertise in impromptu speaking. Whether the most appropriate response for the speaker is serious, humorous or imaginative, practice is given in presenting thoughts concisely and effectively.
    * Explain Table Topics and theme
    * Conduct the Table Topics session
    * Return control to the Toastmaster

    * Audience opportunity to vote for the best table topic

TABLE TOPICS EVALUATION
The purpose of the evaluation is to help the speaker become less self-conscious and a better speaker. This requires awareness of the speakers skill level, habits, and mannerisms , as well as their progress to date.

    * Toastmaster introduces speakers, who deliver prepared speeches

    * Audience opportunity to vote for the best performed speaker

    * Timer
    * Ah-Counter

GENERAL EVALUATOR
The general evaluator is evaluator of everything that takes place during the meeting. The general evaluator role provides practice in such leadership skills as critical thinking, planning, preparation, organisation, time management, motivation, and team building.

    * Announcement of awards
    * Closing remarks
