Supreme Court Justice Nomination as Seen From a Hispanic
As to President Obama’s nomination of a Supreme Court Justice:
We had Estrada, and now they have Sotomayor. But what did we do with our pick? Did we rally the streets to get Estrada nominated? Did we call in with a huge cry into Washington D.C. to make sure our elected officials heard us? Did the GOP even understand the importance of Estrada’s pick? I maintain that Republicans take the Hispanic vote for granted, and therefore, we lost the one major opportunity to push through the nomination of a man who would rattle the arguments Democrats hold against Republicans as cold-hearted racists.
Yes, I know…even McCain with his desire to grant amnesty couldn’t win them over, but that’s not to say that we do not guard the battle field from different angles. I have made mention of how important it is to have Hispanics be heard over these concerns, but no one seems interested. It is well understood that Hispanic Republican groups already exist, but I contend that just as we’ve seen non-Hispanic Republican efforts fail in their efforts to win America, so have they.
As I’ve been trying to say:
Republicans will never be able to gain the Hispanic vote until they actually realize the following (but only after they seek Hispanic input within each district, from intelligent, well educated people):
a) They must revise the activities of the present-time Republican Party Hispanic representatives b) They must make SURE that they are the shadow of powerful people within the party c) They must work hard at having a voice in the T.V. channels (such as Univision), magazines, etc. d) They must push these same people into prominent positions (up where cameras can catch them) e) They must include Hispanics in their “Listening Tour.”
