December 2006 marked the founding year for Santa chaos in Hampton Roads in the form of "Santa Crawl." For the first time Santa made a welcomed and celebrated appearance along Granby Street in Norfolk, and in visible numbers. Beginning with just a small core group of Santas, through the night the group grew to 30+ participants. And while such a showing is not an original idea in the context of the United States, or the world, for that matter, it was a first for the Tidewater area. Santa truly enjoyed celebrity status on this night. He would definitely have to return. Original (Official) Norfolk Santa Crawl poem/lyrics:Evidence we were first. You better go out, You better show thigh, You better drink stout And I'm telling you why Santa Crawl is coming downtown We're making our list, Checking it twice. Gonna find elves who're naughty, not nice Santa Crawl is coming downtown. We see how you are dancing, We like to see you shake. We like if you are bad not good So be bad for Santa's sake. You better go out, You better show thigh, You drink stout And I'm telling you why Santa Crawl is coming downtown. Copyright TCM 2006 |
