 Meet Astro

We love learning letters and sounds with our alien friend Astro!  He brings us surprises each day to make the learning fun.  We will begin with the letters    /m/, /s/, /r/, and /t/.  Our second cluster will include /n/, /p/, /k/, and /a/. Students should be able to name each letter that is introduced, make the sound it represents and form each letter correctly on paper.

We Had A Whale Of A Time At The Aquarium

Meet Tux

Tux is an African penguin who lives at Jenkinson's Aquarium.  He came out of his cage just to see us.

We enjoyed making our own penguin puppets.

We loved seeing all the ocean animals!  From the ferocious sharks in their big tanks to the smallest of the turtles.  The aquarium had it all.

I hope the following information will be helpful.

Homework Folder

In the beginning of the year your child is given a special homework folder.  The children must bring this folder to school every day.  It is our way of communicating with each other.  These folders are checked every morning.  All important notices from the school office or from me will be placed in this folder as well as your child's daily work and homework assignments.  You will also use this folder to send me  notes, return completed homework assignments and send in any money the children might need.  Please remember that all money should be sent to school in an envelope or zip-loc bag clearly marked with your child's name and the purpose for which the money has been sent to school.  Please remember to use the folder for all communication and money.  We do not check the students' backpacks.

                       Homework Policy

Each night the children will be asked to perform a simple task for homework.  We believe that this activity will re-enforce concepts taught in class and help the children to develop a sense of responsibilty.  All homework will be sent home in the homework folder and should be completed and returned to school the next day unless otherwise noted.  Each child has a homework calendar taped inside his or her folder.  When the children return their completed homework assignment a star will be placed on the calendar in the appropriate box.  At the end of the month a homework reward will be given to each child who has accumulated the correct number of stars.  In addition to daily homework assignments, the students will also be given a special Math Homelinks Calendar each month beginning in the month of October.  The calendar is designed to engage the students in quick and simple activites that support the math goals for that month.  As you complete each of the daily activities please initial the box.  Completed Math Homelink Calendars are due back to school on the first school day of each new month.

Lunch Procedures

A lunch menu will be sent home at the beginning of every month.  The menu selection sheet will be sent home each week.  By checking the box next to your choices on the "Weekly Selection Sheet"  you insure that your child recieves the lunch you feel is most appropriate for her or him.  You may purshase lunch on a daily or weekly basis.  Please put all lunch money and snack money in an envelope or zip-loc bag with your child's name on it.  All selection sheets and money should be placed in your child's folder.
