we have an
AUDIO recording of the meeting.

Very, Very Important: Click Here - Please Sign the NEW petition.
If you signed the old petition for CZ-2008-35, please SIGN this NEW petition as well
The prior signatures 'don't count' because the developer withdrew that version of the rezoning.  This petition is for the NEW docket, CZ-2008-53.  (53 is the current one, 35 is the old, withdrawn, docket.)
We'll deliver the signatures to County Council!  It made a huge difference in opposing the LAST attempt at rezoning!

 WHAT IS THIS ALL ABOUT?

A commercial developer wants to rezone some of the large plots of land at the intersection of West Georgia Road and Rocky Creek Road
(
37+ acres) into a "Planned Development".

It's actually a SECOND attempt!!  Prior objections helped stop it once.
But it's all a "new ball game" now.

This is a Zoning classification that can (and in this case does) include Commercial, Professional and Residential all into one "development".  It's "all or nothing" approval.

Do you want Drive-Thru 'restaurants' (aka, think one or more Mickey D's or similar),  plus another neighborhood of unsold lots reducing our property values further, AND a block of 'professional' offices {professional is very vague!} ?

How about the street lighting and the garish neon signs 24x7 ?
Right in the middle of the residential West Georgia and Rocky Creek corridor.

Every bit is all allowed under a "PD = Planned Development".
Some feel it's "commercial" rezoning in disguise.

Think Fairview before it became "Fairview".
Think "Woodruff" before it became ... well...

'If you give a mouse a cookie'....

(For those not yet aware, the developer WITHDREW the earlier rezoning request.  Your support of the PRIOR petition was instrumental in causing this withdrawal and resubmittal.

This is a *NEW* version of a previous proposed rezoning. - see the link below for the 'history' of this rezoning and opposition)

The old rezoning request was CZ-2008-35, the neighborhood opposition
was apparent then.
This new one is CZ-2008-53 -- ANOTHER attempt at the same thing.  This time the developer is more obstinate.

(Unfortunately, it means the grassroots objections also have to start all over again!)

The Public Hearing that was held on August 18th was the ONE and ONLY time the County Council will publically 'listen' to verbal input from the public.  Seems strange, but true.   Now that it's past, other methods still are available.    YOUR SUPPORT STILL COUNTS!   Please sign the petition!

At this stage, individual letters can be sent to the planning commission AND the County Council, petitions gathered, and contact to the county council members is also possible.   (Fred Payne is the council person for the area being rezoned.)
