Symptoms and Treatments
Strain happens whenever a muscle or tendon is stretched or torn elsewhere in the body. They usually occur in the neck, back, and thigh as a result of a sudden movement or the overstretching of a muscle. When the victim is complaining about sudden pain, stiffness or cramps, help him to place the injured in a comfortable position as possible. Avoid touching or moving the injured area. If neck and back were injured help him to raise the injured part to control the swelling and pain.
Apply a pressure pad and bandage. After ten minutes, apply an unwrapped ice pack over the bandage or, if the victim prefers, take the bandage off and apply a wrapped ice pack for ten minutes only. If soreness occurs, help him to rest for up to an hour to help ease the muscle spasm. Seek help to avoid long term disability and complications.
