Rules for Eligibility
1. The Scout must be under 18
years of age at the end of competition.
2. The Scout must be a member
of any unit in the participating District or Company sponsored Unit in the
Council during the entire year of the competition and must participate
regularly in all activities required for qualification.
3. The Scout must declare his
intention to compete by submitting an Application form not later than April 20,
2012.
4. The Scout must obtain his
Unit Leader’s approval on the Application.
5. The Scout may transfer from
one Unit to another with in the participating District during the year of the
competition.
6. A Webelo in the
participating District can become eligible providing he becomes a registered
Scout by May 1 of the year of the competition.
Conditions
1. The period of competition
will be for one year ending May 1, 2011.
2. The FIRESTONE CERTIFICATE OF MERIT may be won more than once
by the same Scout
3. Any one Scout may win the FIRESTONE AWARD only once.
4. The decision of the judges
shall be final.
5. The terms and conditions of
the competition are subject to change annually at the discretion of the
Firestone Tire & Rubber Company.

AWARDS
THE FIRESTONE CERTIFICATE OF MERIT
If you qualify for the Certificate you will be give
a full week of summer camp at Ransburg or other awards that may be approved.
THE FIRESTONE AWARD
If you are the most outstanding Scout among those to
receive the FIRESTONE CERTIFCATE OF MERIT you will receive an
additional prize to be announced in advance.
QUALIFCATIONS
To qualify for consideration by the Board of Judges you
shall do all of the following.
SCOUTCRAFT:
1. Participate with your Unit
or Patrol in at least 10 overnight camps, of which 6 nights may be at long-term
summer camp during the year ending May 1st.
2. Demonstrate your leadership
ability within you own Unit and elsewhere.
3. Participate in Patrol or
Unit program planning.
4. Participate in at lease two
service projects or civic activities with your unit.
5. Advancement: From Scout
through Star you must advance at least one rank. From Star through Eagle you must earn a
minimum of six additional Merit Badges in the year ending May 1st.
6. Demonstrate your skill in
Campcraft at the FIRESTONE AWARD
Encampment.
7. Complete a project from
those listed in this leaflet.
SCOUTING RECORD:
1. Regularly attend your
scheduled Unit Meetings.
2. Participate in Unit, Council
and District activities.
3. Faithfully observe the Scout
Oath and Law.
CHURCH RECORD:
You
must acquire from your Priest, Rabbi, Pastor, Sunday school teacher or Church
representative, a statement, which indicates satisfactory participation in your
church program, or submit a short essay on what the work Reverent in the Scout
law means to you.
SCHOLASTIC RECORD:
You must acquire from your Principal, Vice Principal,
Counselor, or Teacher a statement indicating satisfactory progress in your schoolwork.
PROJECTS:
1. Participate in a service
project for your community for a minimum of 4 months.
2. Serve a minimum of six
months as a Den Chief or Junior Assistant Scoutmaster in our troop.
3. Make a water-repellant
tent. It must be used at the Encampment.
4. Make a back-packing outfit:
pack frame, sack, or basket. It must be
used at the Encampment.
5. Make a wood burning camp
stove and use it at the Encampment.
6. Build a wooden bird feeding
station and maintain it for a minimum of three months. It must be of standard design and brought to
a meeting for inspection by your Scoutmaster.
List the birds seen using it.
7. Receive a Religious Award
for your church as approved by the Boy Scouts of America.
8. Serve as your unit’s News
Reporter and submit at least three articles that appeared in local newspapers
regarding activities of your unit.
9. Make a nature study booklet
of 25 subjects – one to a page. Each item is to have a description of at least
50 words.
10. Receive the 50-Miler Award.
11. Receive the Historic Trail
Award.
12. Receive the Leave No Trace
Award.
13. Complete the requirements
for Scout Lifeguard.
Your
Scoutmaster must certify all projects.
