Mike Sands
I should have known when I agreed to making this comic that I would have to fill out some sort of autobiographical section of the website. For the short-term memory impaired out there, I'm Mike, and I like to draw. On very rare occasion. Usually as a way to expel my pent up emotions. Or to make some sort of crappy joke. It depends on how my day is going.
I told Nate from the beginning that this comic was inevitably going to take inspiration from Japanese, video game, and all around geeky subjects. And yet he still contends that it, in fact, relates to any and all facets of (college) life. I'll let you decide. I just want to make something funny.
I originally got into cartooning a few years ago in high school. I collaborated with a friend of mine and came up with a group of little cartoon characters, each one corresponding to someone in our social group. The comic was very simple for its time, yet it still retained that cute, cuddly quality. The kind that makes you think selling plushy versions of the characters would be money-making genius. Anyway, that lasted up until the start of my college days. Not to say I've completely condemned my previous drawing style, just that it's taken a back seat to the current one.
When Nate approached me about the comic, I knew a change was in order. I basically took my inspiration from Penny Arcade and Ctrl-Alt-Delete, throwing in some of my own personal style as well, I think. And woahlah, or however that's spelled. I like the way my sister put it when she said to me that the new comical me looks like the old one all grown up. Maybe that's who he is.
As Nate commented, I do all the drawing work on the comic while he just tells me what looks good and what doesn't. In that manner, he's much like my manager. But he's still pretty good at throwing together a website, and if it wasn't for his nagging instant messages, I'd never get off my lazy butt and do this comic. So props to him.
Unlike Nate, however, if you randomly decide to facebook me, I'll accept without any second thought. I'm desperately in need of social acceptance. That and my self esteem is predicated on the number of friends I have on facebook.
And now that you know my life story, quit wasting your time and do something productive and meaningful with your life. After reading Ramen Bowl Universal Remote that is.
Oh and I'm single.

Yoroshiku. If you are reading this, you can see the front page and the header, and there is no need to tell you my name. I was inspired to somehow start a comic that was just funny without following a particular plot.
You may find, for some inadequately explained reason, that this comic shifts towards Japanese themes. I like to read about the Japanese culture and I am currently studying the language, so the influence will be there.
I sometimes feel that I don't do any work when drawing the comic, so I feel obligated to do things like design this website and advertise. Even then, if you want to credit the artwork, credit Mike. If you ever pick up the Triangle and see quite possibly the worst artwork in a comic strip that you have ever seen, it's probably mine.
We both have facebooks, but I will never accept any friend requests from people I have never met before; it's one of the weird quirks of my personality.
I'm a somewhat strange person(I mutter to myself when I think), but I assure you that I am completely sane.
I have blue eyes and brown, curly hair. I don't like being in really loud places, and I don't do well when I am in groups with over 8 people. I am ridiculously white-skinned even though i've spent more time outside than probably 80% of the American public.
I hope you enjoy Universal Remote.
