It provides a forum for exchange of ideas and experiences regarding various aspects of history of mathematical sciences. In addition to annual conferences, ISHM has been organizing seminars/ symposia on the works of ancient, medieval and modern mathematicians and has been regularly bringing out its bulletin Ganita Bharati ever since inception. The ISHM was founded by the late Professor Udita Narayana Singh in the year 1978. The current president of ISHM is Prof. S G Dani. About Us The University of Delhi was established in 1922 as a unitary, teaching and residential university by an Act of the then Central Legislative Assembly. Only three colleges existed then in Delhi: St. Stephens College founded in 1881, Hindu College founded in 1899 and Ramjas College founded in 1917, which were affiliated to the University. The University thus had a modest beginning with just three colleges, two faculties (Arts and Science) and about 750 students. At present, there are 14 faculties, 86 academic departments and 79 colleges spread all over the city, with about 2,20,000 students. In the University of Delhi, the Department of Mathematics was started in 1947 and in 1957 a post-graduate course in mathematical Statistics was initiated. The department was therefore renamed as Department of Mathematics and mathematical Statistics. In 1963 a two year postgraduate course in Operational Research was instituted under this department. As such the department expanded considerably and so did its activities. Consequently in December 1964 the Faculty of Mathematics was formed and in August 1973 the only department under the Faculty was divided into four departments, viz. Department of Mathematics, Department of Statistics, Department of Operational Research, and Department of Computer Science. The teaching of computer science was however, started in 1982.
