Welcome to the site of the 2009-2010 University of Toronto Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations Fourteenth Annual Graduate Student Symposium. The NMCGSA Symposium has become an important staple in the Department of Near and Middle East Civilizations, as well as within the University of Toronto community and beyond. The symposium continues to provide promising graduate students – totaling over 100 graduate student presentations over the 14 years – a unique opportunity to share their original research with the scholarly community in a conference-like forum, the proceedings of which are periodically published. In the past, the symposium has included the participation of faculty, undergrad, and graduate students from the Department of NMC, the U of T community, as well as from around the world (including Canada, the United States, Europe and the Middle East). The NMCGSA is uniquely positioned to be a terrain of cross-disciplinary and transhistorical debate, discussion, and critique. In the past, graduate students from a number of disciplines – including religion, history, sociology, literature, archaeology, Egyptology, language, political science, and so on – have interacted in the spirit of scholarly sharing and learning. Indeed, such is the strength and value of the NMCGSA Annual Symposium. CHECK BACK FOR DETAILS AS THEY COME AVAILABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
