Competition Details

1.       For location details, construction plans and pricing guidlelines, please refer to the following information:

Ø      Maps of Africa & Rwanda, showing location of Nkombo Island

Ø      “As-Built” Drawings and photographs of the “Progressive Housing”
Ø      Material Availability on Nkombo Island
Ø      Indicative construction costs, for comparative purposes
Ø     Cause & Effect Analysis, tracking the design development, reasons beyond certain decisions, recording their effectiveness and commenting upon their success.

 

2.                 Entries must contain sufficient detail (e.g. scale drawings, with supporting calculations) that could be reliably utilised for construction, and be fully costed. 
 
Each submission is limited to 50 pages of A4 (a single A3 page will be counted as 2 pages of A4). Minimum text size is “Arial 10”. Line spacing to be at least 1.5x font size. All submissions must be made electronically, by e-mail to nkombo.housing@googlemail.com and must therefore be under 5mB. Entries that do not comply with above criteria will not be considered.
 

3.                 Competition will close on Friday, 9th January 2010, and no further information can be accepted after this date.

 

4.                 Winning entrants will be announced on this website in February 2010, and contacted via e-mail, and will be able to join the construction team in Rwanda in April 2010, to get really involved!

 

5.                 Please register your interest by sending an email with your full name, qualification/profession, town and country, along with your age, gender and if you are applying as a team and finally how you heard about the competition to nkombo.housing@googlemail.com. There is no need to define your concept(s) at this initial stage. 

6.      
Team entries are permitted, albeit there are only 2 prizes on offer - 1 for a student (in full time education) and another for a graduate / mature entrant. Should your team be successful, it would be your decision as to whom would be the lucky recipient. If another team member (up to a maximum of a further 3) wished to partake also, they could fund their own passage to Rwanda, join the project team and receive the same local benefits as the winner, for the princely sum of £50 per week.
