on an interactive web interface I plan to use photography to critically evaluate the three main fears that the mass media are proposed to be causing. These being that they have a copycat effect on the audience, that is that the audience imitate behavior they see on television which could be exemplified through rap music and gang violence or gaming and gun crime. The second fear would be desensitisation, the idea that the constant exposure to a certain theme, such as violence, results in the viewer not be shocked or disturbed when they see it in real life. The third fear is that the audience become dummies in that everything they do is saturated by the media and so cannot distinguish between reality and fiction and furthermore that most of the audiences is time is spent with the media and thus do not address important aspects of their life. These fears stem from the hypodermic syringe model/magic bullet theory proposed by the Frankfurt School. These fears will be represented through a variety images that will intend to demonstrate the effect that the mass media can and does have. The project will be interactive as you can select what fear to view the photograph thorugh as nit will change in accordance to each fear however, the fundamentals of the photograph will remain the same.
