Textbook: Elementary Algebra, 3nd Edition by Tom Carson and Bill Jordan; Pearson, Addison Wesley, 2011
Prerequisite: Math 112 or equivalent
Course objective: By the end of this course, students should be able to handle: solving basic equations and inequalities; literal equations; Applications: integer, mixture, investment, uniform motion, and inequality problems; graphs, slopes, and equations of straight lines; linear equations; graphing linear inequalities; exponents; algebra of polynomials; factoring polynomials, solving equations by factoring; operations of algebraic fractions; simplifying complex fractions; equations with fractions; systems of two linear equations and inequalities in two variables; radical expressions; quadratic equations and applications.
Grading: There will be weekly homework, quizzes, at least five tests, and a final exam. They will count toward the final grade as follows:

The lowest scores will be dropped if all tests, quizzes and homework assignments are taken and attendance is perfect.

Important Notes:
- Class attendance is mandatory! If you miss class five hours of class without good excuses, you will be dropped from the course.
- There are no make-up tests.
- All assignments are mandatory.
- Cell phones and all electronic devices must be put on silence mode.
- It’s your responsibility to drop the class.
- Calculators are not allowed in this class.
- Any behavior (such as talking,…) that interrupts the class is unacceptable.

All homework assignments, tests will be done online and on paper. The final Exam will be done on paper

Acceptable – The student can solves the application by some method and summarize the results.
Unacceptable – The student can unable to determine a method to solve the application. |
