Being born and bought up in Mysore, my education was entirely in Mysore. I studied Lower Secondary at Avila Convent, High School and PUC at Sharada Vilas,  and B.E. (Electronics and Communications) at National Institute of Engineering(NIE) and Post-Graduation (Computer Programming) at Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering(SJCE).  NIE provided us very good education, good teachers and finally good atmosphere. We were twenty of us in the E&C batch at that time. Eventhough we were very mischievous, all of us came out with good results. Mr. Jaishankar and I were residents of the road opposite to Marimallappa High School and used to go to NIE together.  After our graduation, I joined CFTRI and while Jaishankar joined Blue Star, and later started his own company at Hyderabad.  We have been in touch with each other regularly.

Good old college days

During final year we had a get-together party at Madhuvana Garden, BN Road on 15th June 1975. Since my brother was working at Ideal Jawa Factory, his colleagues also joined the party.
In the year 1995, I was in Hyderabad to attend an official meeting and I met Jaishankar after a gap of 10 years.  At the same time another classmate, Mohan Reddy, who is now working as a Dean at Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western University, Ohio, USA, also happened to meet us. We three became nostalgic of our college days, and decided bring together all of our batch mates. A small booklet published during our education tour in the year 1974 (which I had preserved) containing postal addresses of my batchmates and phone numbers came to my help in tracking all of our batchmates.  It took nearly four years to locate everyone except one.  We first met at Bangalore, as many were working there and decided to meet during the year 2000 to celebrate the silver jubilee year of our graduation at our beloved NIE College, to which we were grateful for turning us into engineers. We also decided to express our gratitude in a unique way.  Thus came the idea of honoring a meritorious student from E&C branch each year with cash prize of  Rs. 5,000 and donating text books worth Rs. 1,000 to the E&C department. Also decided to honour the students in the final year itself (by taking previous three years' average marks) as it would be difficult for us to catch them after their final exams because of campus recruitment. This we have been doing it since then and so far 9 boys have received the honours.

That is how the NIE-E&C(1975) Team which regrouped in 2000,  setup sufficient endowment fund for this purpose.  Our next task was to locate our teachers most of whom had retired from service and settled in different cities. Again with great difficulty, located all of them and invited them for the get-together function held in the month of December 2000.

The get-together function was a great success and 13 of our classmates could make it for the function along with their family. All our teachers and Governing Council Members of NIE Society and students of E&C branch, were present in the function. To start with, we donated text books to the department and made an announcement in the function about the award for the topper.

Thus first annual meet of our team was held in the month of December 2001 and we honored the topper Mr. Balarajeeva from E&C department with cash prize of Rs. 5,000 during the meet. He is now working in a company which develops mobile applications, owned by my classmate, T. Nagaraja.

The 11th Annual Meet

We organized our 11th Annual Meet on 26th November 2011 at NIE premises. This year we honoured Ms. Pooja, the topper with a cash prize of Rs. 5,000/-. The Second prize shared by Ms. Shruthi and Mr. Aaquib Javed Khan with a cash prize of Rs. 1,500/- respectively
. Ravi and Jaishankar could make it for this year meet.

This year we had two more get-together meetings.

One at Baliga's residence during May 2011. For the first time Sudharshan attended our meet. Also we had guests from Mechanical branch, Mr. Srinivas, Sridhara Murthy and Venkatesh.

Another meeting with Sham during December 2011. We met at Hotel Pai, Jayanagar

All reports, starting from the year 2000 to the current one, are available on this site for the public. Unfortunately our team has been reduced to 18, as we recently lost 2 of our beloved friends Vijayanarasimha and Girishkumar.
