St. Patrick's Day Parade 2010
Our club participated in the Naperville St. Patrick's Day Parade on M arch 14. David
Nordin showed up early with doughnuts and signage. We decorated the vehicles with green banners and NIMVPA St. Patrick's Day signs that he had made up for the occasion. Those signs and banners helped get everyone into the spirit of the day. The weather was rainy and misty but it did not stop the turnout from the citizens of Naperville. It seems like almost the entire town is Irish on this day. Overall it was a very fun parade.
We labeled this parade the diesel parade. This is the only parade I can remember when all of our club vehicles in the parade were diesel powered. We had Greg Boruki with his family show up in his Humvee. Tom Hawkins also made a showing with his Humvee. Craig McDonald had his 2 1/2 ton shop van. I had my CUCV.
I almost didn't make it to the parade this week because of an electrical problem and a fan belt alignment problem on my CUCV. Craig and I worked on the problems for couple of days and we resolved those problems. Craig is always willing to help with vehicles even when he has only had a couple hours of sleep. His son Kevin came home on leave from the Coast Guard and did not get to their house until after midnight. The family spent time with Kevin when he arrived. Craig got to bed very late and I showed up early. This did not hinder Craig’s commitment to help a fellow member in need. Thanks again Craig for all your help.
So even with the rain, our first parade was a success. ~Allen Foley

President's Message
June 2010
I am really proud to say that I am a member of this fine
organization. I wish to personally thank each and every one who has
participated in this year's events. I especially want to thank all those who
helped in making the Chicago Memorial Day parade a huge success. My thanks go
out to John and Lisa for providing the breakfast. John Ayers did a good job in
setting up the convoy from his home. Thanks go out to the many members who
helped with the positioning of the vehicles. The USO had a lot of riders this
year and it made this event even more fun. And finally a special thanks goes
out to the McDonald's for the excellent preparation of the food and
get-together after the parade.
The big parade downtown had perfect weather unlike the last
couple of parades that we have participated. The Wood Dale parade was hampered
by a severe downpour. The sky got almost black with lots of lightning. Some of
us (including me ) lucked out because we had enclosed vehicles with automatic
wipers. Many of us did not have that luxury because of the open-air vehicles.
The lack of doors and automatic wipers did not prevent our members to
participate. The black sky, wind,
lightning and downpour did not stop the parade and it went on as scheduled.
The pet parade last week had its share of poor weather. It
rained on and off during the parade. This
event has been going on for 63 years and is said to be America's
original pet parade! I saw a lot of people that were wet to the bone but
this did not seem to bother anyone. Happy faces from both the pets and their owners prevailed.
Well gang, we have
officially started summer and have many more will events scheduled for the
summer. It looks like our club turns out in any type of weather. Again thanks
to all those members who have participated in the past events.
I look forward to
seeing you in the upcoming events. See you there!
