Reflection and Goals

While this eportfolio is a work in progress, I decided to begin my reflection of the complete work in its early stages. The first thoughts I had when looking through all my artifacts was that I wished I had started collecting and archiving much sooner.  I cannot stress the importance of archiving your documents, pics, video, and everything else that qualifies as evidence that you are reaching standards.  Lucky for me I started using Google Apps, Picassa, and YouTube early enough to have enough artifacts to make a go.

It was relatively easy to set standards for myself once I sat back and perused what I had been doing for the last 5 years.  Still I think a lot of my artifacts aren't so easy to catergorize and some could fit in both.  I will probaly revise or tweak the standanrds over time as I collect more.

Writing reflections was something I was made to do to death in graduate school.  In fact to graduate I had a choice of playing it safe and making a portfolio of my work that my mentor would help me edit, or throwing it all down on one day of 5 hour written exams.  I did the one day.  So it was extremely surprising to me how much I enjoyed reflecting on my experiences as a teacher at Hawaii Tokai International College.  I was actually smiling while writing because each artifact was like reliving good memory.

I have yet to go through the formative assessment process but I do hope my colleagues are up for it and will use the rubric I porvided to help me improve on the eportfolio.

Google Apps and more specifically Google Sites has been a breeze to use.  I am very much looking forward to getting my colleagues and students to adopt this platform and see it as a snug fit for our colleges' programs.  Still my goals are in front of me and it is going to take a lot to get all of the faculty and students to begin collaborating on a schoolwide transition into the Google Apps for Education Suite.  I hope to develop workshops and tutorials.  Most of all, I hope to see students really getting the point of learning outcomes and the mission of the collge.  I think making an eportfolio including artifacts of their learning according to our standands will give them a more global and dynamic view of themselves and their education.  This will be the most exciting part.
