About our charity :

Action for Children
Action for Children meets the needs of the children and young people who most need support to achieve their full potential. Through our work and through speaking out, we seek to break the cycle of deprivation. We challenge injustice and empower children to overcome the obstacles in their lives that hold them back. We tailor our work to local circumstances, in partnership with children and young people, families, communities and local organisations.
Charity Registration No 1097940

On Friday 3rd October I was sleeping rough on the streets in London, along with 250 other IT executives, at Byte Night 2008. By spending a night sleeping rough in Potters Fields by Tower Bridge - once occupied by the "endurance artiste" David Blaine - I am raising funds for Action For Children, the children's charity - who provide much-needed support for some of the 32,000 homeless 16 to 21 year olds in Britain.

We were aiming to raise £5,000 from our team of 4 IT Directors and CIOs. Our Current total shows on the top left.

We made it! We were fortunate:
  • It didn't rain.
  • It was the coldest night of the autumn, but there were hot drinks available through the night.
  • We were able to raise enough money, so far, to keep 19 young homeless people in supported lodgings for a month.
  • We found out about the great work that Action for Children does to support and speak out for the most vulnerable children and young people in the UK
  • With 350 other sleepers we hope to raise £500,000.

Our team sponsorship page is staying open until 3 Jan 2009 at: http://www.justgiving.com/siliconcomrades

Thank you in advance for your support of these young people and the difference you can make to their lives. For every £300 raised, Action For Children can remove a young person from the harmful situations they face on the streets, by providing secure supported lodgings for a month.
