Hello, I'm Trisha Niceswanger and I'm from Carroll, Iowa. I'm a sophomore at the University of Northern Iowa majoring in Spanish and Psychology.
I am Vice-Chair of the Team Recruitment Committee for the UNI Relay for Life. I am part of the group SAVE (Students Against a Violent Environment). I participate in Women's Choir as well as Sigma Delta Pi (Spanish Honor Society). I was very involved in high school with different groups: Speech & Drama, Band, Choir, Show Choir. I have always loved being around people, which has led to my interest in becoming a teacher.
I want to be a teacher because I want to bring the Spanish language to high school students. I think foreign languages are very important for our future. My Spanish influence was Mercedes, a foreign exchange student who lived with my family when I was 2 years old. Because of her, I want to be able to speak the language fluently as well as teach it to high school students.
I also want to show students the world of Psychology and the many different ways it can be explored. I think it is a subject area that is not utilized in high schools as much as it could be, and I want to bring that information to students of the future. I hope to be the inspirational teacher that students look up to. I want to do the best I can to expand minds and open up opportunities. I want to be the experience that someone looks back on and is thankful for my influence.
