A Message From Dr. Lockhart The Hewlett Packard grant award allows for our school to integrate technology into the classroom in ways never before possible. In a time in which the economy prohibits many of the inquiry-based learning projects that students should have in order to be more well-rounded, the technology purchased through the HP grant allows for students to have access to virtual labs, virtual field trips, and more. As the world continuously shifts to the increased use of technology, our students at Newton High School are afforded the opportunity to be competitive and more competent in a global society.
The HP grant gives us an enhanced ability to provided high quality teaching and learning in our science classes that truly reaches the student level. Student engagement in the sciences has improved through the use of our HP mobile labs. Thanks to Hewlett Packard, our students have more opportunity to become college and/or work ready in the 21st century.

Teachers & Students Comments
"I think the new HP lab is very helpful that way we dont have to go all the way to the computer lab. We don't have any distractions from other classes in the new lab. Its just a very good place to learn." Blake McDonald, NHS student “The HP lab, is very helpful to my learning experience in environmental science.” Robert Murphy, NHS student “The HP grant has provided our students with many new opportunities that they would not have had without our school receiving this grant. As a result of the increased use of technology in the classroom, our students are better prepared to succeed in college and in the workforce. They have used the computers to create presentations of various types and to compile data and analyze results from various lab activities. They have learned new computer and communication skills and have been able to gain a better understanding of trends in data analysis.” Lisa Oswald, NHS Teacher “Being a current student of Newton High School, I am thankful our school was awarded the grant to help advance our science department. Because of the grant I was able to use the tablets to do my Biome project in Mrs. James class.” Shanice Baugh, NHS student “Having access to more resources and better technology brings a better learning to my clasroom. The new computers that are available to us not only allow each individual to work at his/her own pace, but it gives us the opportunity to add depth to our studies. “ Stormy Kage, NHS student “I have really enjoyed using my tablet and projector daily in my classes; I use Microsoft OneNote to give notes and work out problems with the students, and have let them come up and write answers. I also have used my subscription to Gizmos with my classes as both demonstrations and for student use. The students really were happy to see the interactive visual representations of the topics they were learning.” Jamie Summerour, NHS Teacher “My Forensic Science students love using the computers for analyzing the virtual crime scenes available through the books website.” Millie Drane, NHS Teacher “You cannot have peanut butter without the jelly; you cannot have science without technology. Computers have helped us with data analysis and researching unknown concepts of science.” Jakia R., Camille H., Temiya H.& Daphenie M. “Science is kind of hard but we will prevail. Even with the lowest grades, we like computers too!” Rodriquez S.
“Science is hard but using the computers and other forms of technology, we can conquer science! Paul C.
“When it comes to science, I think it is hard work. But with the use of technology, it will make it easier than you think it would be. Using the computers in class have helped fill in the blanks left by the textbook.” Daphenie M.
