About NHS

The National Honor Society (NHS) was begun in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and was the first national honor society in the United States.  There are currently over one million NHS members across the country.

The NHS was established to honor students who excelled in the four core guiding values:

  • Scholarship
  • Leadership
  • Character
  • Service

All four values are equally important, and all four areas determine selection for NHS chapters, including FVHS’. The Fuquay-Varina chapter of the NHS was chartered in the 2007-08 school year and inducted its first students in the 2008-09 school year.

Students eligible for membership in the FVHS chapter include juniors and seniors enrolled at FVHS last semester who have a minimum 3.75 grade point average (weighted) and evidence of good character, leadership experience, and service to our community.
