NEWS ABOUT JIM WELLS

posted Jul 1, 2009 12:13 PM by Janet Tyrrell

Date: Sunday, June 28, 2009, 2:20 PM
   Yesterday I got a
call telling me that Jim Wells had suffered a blood clot in
his lungs and had been life flighted to Tulsa's Saint
Francis Hospital.  Jim had achilles heel surgery
several weeks ago and apparently suffered this blood clot as
a result of the surgery.  Most people do not survive a
blood clot of this magnitude but some how Jim made it to
Tulsa and under the care of the Doctors at Saint Francis is
doing very well.  As of 3pm today he is out of
intensive care and in a private room.  Spoke to Jim
about and hour ago and we both got very emotional.  Jim
knows he is very lucky to be alive.  Jim is in room
4310 at Saint Francis.  Please share with this
note about Jim with other Delts.

THE BROTHERHOOD OF EAGLES SALUTES YOU. I know the perils you faced and the strength you possessed. You stood tall, answered your country's call, and gave all that you had for your brothers and country. You were part of the greatest unit ever, and I'm proud to be of the same Brotherhood that you served with honor and courage. You are not forgotten, nor will you ever be forgotten, as you will remain forever in the memory of every Screaming Eagle that has "Been There and Done That". You Made Me Aware
Although I didn't know your personally, I was a junior when they announced your sacrific over the Norman High School public address system. That day I began to understand what "Vietnam" truely meant and how final life is. Later, I found myself with the 101st and thought of that terrible announcement of several years earlier. I got lucky and made it back home. I'm so sorry that you had to pay the ultimate sacrific. God bless you and your family always and thanks for being there for us all.

+PDF+ John Finney's Curriculum Vitae (63.7KB, modified January 2006)

John Finney is a consulting professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford, director of the Center for Health Care Evaluation at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, and a CHP/PCOR associate. His research has focused largely on conceptually driven, process-outcome evaluations of treatment programs for substance use disorder. To synthesize research on alcohol treatment outcomes, he was the principal investigator for a project that examined 701 alcohol treatment outcome studies reported between 1970 and 1998. In addition to determining the methodological quality of the studies, the project focused on the relative effectiveness of various psychosocial treatment modalities, inpatient versus outpatient treatment, and brief interventions versus usual care in medical settings or more extensive care in specialized settings. Attempting to glean evidence for matching patients to treatments has been a focus in both his treatment evaluation and research synthesis projects.

Finney has served on advisory boards for National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) Research Centers in Michigan and California, and for the Treatment Research Center at the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a fellow in the Addictions Division of the American Psychological Association. He received a BA in psychology from the University of Oklahoma and a PhD in social psychology/ personality from the University of Colorado.
