It didn’t take long for the line to form when all heard the Corn Chowder was ready. Our April meeting brought out twenty-six members and all brought delicious food to complement the Chowder. The Merchand’s and Woodworth’s furnished the chowder ……they are GOOD cooks and the entire meal was enjoyed by all.
Our Chapter participates and supports doing Charitable causes. Seven Chapter members made twenty-four lap robes that were donated to Nursing Homes in Whitefield, New Hampshire, St. Johnsbury , Vermont, Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill, Genesis Nursing Home in Lebanon, New Hampshire and Brookside Nursing Home in White River Jct. Vermont. These gals not only put together the lap robes but furnished the material and yarn on their own. We also donated a large box of nonperishable food , purchased by Chapter members, to the West Barnet, Vermont Church Food Pantry. The appreciation for all of these was certainly shown within the Thank You notes that were received and read at this meeting.
A small bi-weekly paper called the NORTH COUNTRY NEWS, published a small article, written by Secretary, Arvilla Goss, telling about Grafton County Mountaineers. We hope to get more articles printed about this Chapter as our summer camp outings unfold with lots of fun and meetings make serious decisions.
Our first camp outing will be held May 18th 20th with some going in the campground on Thursday the 17th. The Merchand’s are hosting and their tentative schedule of events sounds like all will be kept busy and a great time should be enjoyed. Hoping for sunny and a warm weekend on the 18th.
However, the spring weather reminds one of Robert Frost’s poem: The sun was warm but the wind was chill. You know how it is with an April day. When the sun is out and the wind is still, you’re one month on in the middle of May. But if you so much as dare to speak, a cloud come over the sunlit arch, and wind comes off a frozen peak, and, you’re two months back in the middle of March…By, Robert Frost.
Enjoy a summer of camping and don’t forget the Samboree!!! |
