THE WINTER 2010-2011 "MEALS FOR NEIGHBORS" summary:

North Haven Cares says a public thanks to the wonderful volunteers who made Meals for Neighbors happen smoothly and deliciously this winter. Every Thursday a home cooked, nutritious meal was delivered to between 12 and 16 North Haven residents. Our goal was to deliver a meal that would include plenty of “left-overs” for a Friday lunch. Elaine Ames Brown , Tracy Ames and Belinda Frank were the three cooks, taking turns throughout the winter. Elaine, the world’s best bargain hunter and longtime caterer was the organizer for all of us! Bridget Hopkins, Polly Calderwood, Nan Lee and sometimes Lindsey Beverage, too, delivered meals. Tawnia Santee prepared desserts every Thursday and delivered them to the cooks’ homes. We all enjoyed helping with the Meals and hope that next winter we will be able to deliver to even more folks.
Here's a snippet from one week in March: "We delivered a St. Patricks’s Day meal of potatoes, cabbage, corned beef and carrots (on a special Thursday, March 17th). With home baked rolls and pineapple upside down cake, volunteers delivered 16 meals...filling the delivery vehicles with the most wonderful aromas!"
