Ph.D. Candidate: Stream Ecology and Biogeochemistry

Department of Biological Sciences, University of Notre Dame

My research interests involve understanding how agricultural practices have altered stream ecosystem functioning.  Headwater streams draining corn fields are a common sight in the Midwestern U.S., yet we know little about how these streams function.  My research is investigating the importance of corn crop residues on stream carbon cycling.  Further, I am assessing whether genetically modified corn (expressing Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt)-derived crystalline (cry) proteins) affects overall ecosystem function.
