The people in Tiverton need a new library building. The existing 1939 building of 2,844 square feet is not in compliance with state standards for libraries, fire codes, OSHA, nor ADA standards. Based on population changes in the past and projections for the future, the state requirements indicate a building need of 31,544 square feet with:
1. Sufficient space to house and showcase the collection 2. Meeting room space for large and small groups, space for group study and story times 3. Staff work areas and offices 4. Sufficient parking and adequate septic system 5. Seating and space that can accommodate patrons of all ages that will improve their access to a larger collection of library materials and expanded services 6. Wiring for computers and for wireless networking, telephone, smoke detection, fire safety alarm and sprinkler system
The rationale for improvement, the corrections needed and the details of each space including square footage and equipment recommendations for the future are included in the body of the program.
The effort to move ahead is ongoing. Without the acquisition of a new site, an expanded facility is impossible. |
