NEWMAN STOPS CLEAR LAKE 4-3 in Game 1Alex Weber had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He doubled in the third inning and homered in the fifth inning. Clear Lake couldn't get anything going so long as Kane Louscher was on the hill. Louscher held Clear Lake hitless over 2 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out none. Joey Verstegen got the win for Newman Catholic. He allowed three runs over 4 2/3 innings. Verstegen struck out three, walked two and gave up six hits. Newman Catholic was sparked by Weber and Casey Hall, who teamed up for three hits and three RBIs. Newman Catholic didn't relinquish the lead after scoring two runs in the third inning when it scored on an RBI double by Weber and an RBI single by Jack Fitzgerald. After posting one run in the fourth, Newman Catholic again scored one in the fifth. In the fourth, Newman Catholic scored on a solo home run by Hall. |
