Joining the Jacobites Mountaineering Club Google Group is necessarily complicated as the Group is restricted to REAL members of the Jacobites MC.  However it does contain some security features to ensure that (a) anyone that tries to join is a real person with a real email address and (b) anyone that tries to join is a Jacobite.  These are enforced by the Club WebMaster.

The first stage in joining is setting up a Google Account.  Basically it sets up an account on Google, using your email address as the account name, and allowing you to set a password so that only you can access it.  You do not need to set up a new email account.  You do however need to use an existing valid email address.

When you try and join the Jacobites Group, Google will first send you to the page for setting up a Google Account.  Enter the email address you want to use, and also enter a password.  You  will be sent an email which you will contain a link for you to open to verify that the email address that you have used is yours.  The following links connect to Google's help pages and have more information about Google Accounts.

Once you have a Google account, go to Groups are search for "Jacobites Mountaineering Club" or click on this link HERE

Apply to join the Group - you will be vetted against the current membership list.  The Webmaster will approve/discard your application shortly.

When you join the group you have a number of options for how you get discussion messages.  You can opt to have all messages delivered by email, receive a summary version of all recent posts, or even receive no emails, if you want to read the posts only using the web site.  REVIEW your messaging options IMMEDIATELY to avoid any unnecessary annoyance.

Once you have joined the Group, you can view message Online via the Web Interface, or you can send messages to the Group using the email address: jacobites-mountaineering-club@googlegroups.com
