Membership

Club membership is open to anybody. The club has a large active membership, which is currently around 170. Most club members live in or around Edinburgh, but a small number are scattered throughout the rest of the UK and beyond.

To join, apply to the club membership secretary, who is usually available at the Thursday pub nights, or email membership@jacobitesmc.co.uk for details about joining by post.

Subscription

The current (2010-2011) annual subscription rate is £26, with a concessionary rate for the unwaged. This covers the club year, which runs from October to September. For new members wishing to join after the 1st of July, there is a special rate of £31 for 15 months, from July until September of the following year.

Membership Benefits

Members receive: 
  • Club Newsletter. A colour newsletter is sent to all club members approximately every two months.
  • Club Journal. All members receive and can contribute to the annual journal. 
  • Priority over non-members when booking on to club meets. 
  • Free use of the club hut. 
  • Opportunities to buy discounted clothing and equipment through local shops.

Mountaineering Council of Scotland Benefits

The club is affiliated to the Mountaineering Council of Scotland, the national representative body for all mountaineering activities. 

As a member of the Jacobites, you are entitled to receive exactly the same benefits as an individual member of the MCofS - for further details Click Here.

As a member of our club, you will recieve a number of individual benefits from this. These include: 
  • Civil liability insurance for all mountaineering activities. 
  • A regular magazine, The Scottish Mountaineer sent to your home. 
  • Access to insurance and other services provided jointly by the BMC and MCofS. 
  • Access to subsidied training courses, including winter skills, navigation and first aid.
