posted May 8, 2012 6:46 PM by Collin Parkes

Mark your calendars with the upcoming TNA show to be held May 18-20.
This is the annual show conducted at the Will Rodgers complex in Fort
Worth, and should attract some 200 national, regional and local
dealers, as well as coin certification and publication vendors.

Admission to the bourse floor is $5, but free Sunday, for TNA members,
and collectors under 18 years of age. It is also expected that parking
will remain at $5. Log on to www.tna.org for more information.

Spink-Smythe will also conduct an auction of coin and currency lots on
both Friday and Saturday. Watch for more information on this from the
TNA.

We also need volunteers for the Club table on the bourse floor. The
club table will have registration cards, wooden nickels and youth coin
items. Look for a sign-up sheet at the May meeting for this activity.

May Quiz Night

posted May 8, 2012 6:42 PM by Collin Parkes

Time to pull out the Red Book or other references and bone up on your
numismatic facts. Russell Prinzinger will again be leading the annual
quiz of numismatic trivia at our May meeting.

Participating members and guests are teamed by table with 6-8 per
table. A spokesman for each table is selected who gives the official
answer for the table. Everyone contributes, from the oldest to the
youngest member, from the dealer to the novice. Prizes for 1st, 2nd
and 3rd are given to winning tables. This is always very entertaining
and everyone leaves with a little more knowledge about co

Tenth Anniversary

posted May 8, 2012 6:39 PM by Collin Parkes

In addition to the much anticipated Quiz Night, our meeting in May
will mark 10 years together. When a small group of area collectors
showed up at W.C. Martin Methodist in May 2002 to form our Club, who
would have believed the growth we have seen over the past ten years.
In addition to now being one of the largest Clubs in Texas (with over
100 active members in 2011), our members enthusiastically volunteer
for every numismatic event.

We will mark this anniversary with a special emphasis at the May 2012
meeting. Not only will we recount the history and accomplishments of
the Club, each member will receive a special commemorative item. There
will be other surprises, but you’ll just have to attend to discover
what those are.

Donation Auction Results

posted May 8, 2012 6:36 PM by Collin Parkes

We conducted our annual donation auction at the April meeting
consisting of 85+ items donated by 38 members. What struck everyone
was the overall quality of the items donated, causing bidding to be
quite spirited.

When the smoke cleared, the Club had raised $2,648. This is our major
fund raising event and helps pay for the monthly rent, refreshments,
door prizes, Christmas party bingo prizes, quiz night prizes, etc.

Special thanks go out to Frank Schick who helped organize the auction,
and to Jim Waite who called it in such a humorous and fun way.

The TNA will again need our help in staffing the registration desk, raffle and youth auction.  If you work in one of these areas, admission to the bourse floor is free.  Sign up sheets will again be available at the March meeting to work in your area of interest.

We also need volunteers for the Club table on the bourse floor.  The club table will have registration cards, wooden nickels and youth coin items.  Look for a sign-up sheet at the meeting for this activity as well.

While there are plenty of volunteers to help, what we really need are donated auction lots.  If you have items you can donate (lots with a retail value around $10), please contact Frank Schick at the March meeting.

Donation Auction

We're preparing for our annual donation auction and we need your support.  This is our major fund raising event and helps pay for the monthly rent, door prizes, refreshments, Christmas party bingo prizes, quiz night prizes, summer doggie roast and many other things.

We welcome all donations.  However, experience has taught us that items valued above $10 garner more spirited bidding.

Search through your coins and/or currency this week to find donations – maybe your duplicates or coins you really no longer care about.

So many of you brought items to the February meeting, and we thank you.  However, we still need donations.  If you were unable to attend or didn’t have your items with you, there’s still time.

Please bring your items to the March meeting so the auction list can be prepared and sent out to the membership prior to the auction.  Contact Russell Prinzinger if you need more information.
