29 October 2011 A new brew

Regular tin of Tooheys lager and Coopers #2. Added in 4 things of coffee, but mixed in with dextrose in about 2L of hot water then put the extract in. Filled it all up with water up to 18L mark then put in the 5g of Tooheys yeast, but added in some French stuff I had in the freezer for the hell of it. OG of 1.058.

And another two to do...

Brew 1

About 700g of raw sugar and can of Tooheys extract. But then…boiled up 150g of brown rice, pulverised it a bit, cooled and waited for it to go gelatinous, then strained it through into the brew. Added packet yeast and a bit of stuff from a previous brew from the freezer. OG of 1.062 with 16L volume.

Brew 2

Standard fare with 1kg Coopers Number 1 sugars and a can of Tooheys. Added in some extra yeast from the freezer with the standard packet stuff. Added 4 scoops of Harris espresso strong ground coffee. OG of 1.055 with 18L volume.

Fresh brew

Went in at OG 1.073 and seven days later bottled (drank a bit too, nice and fresh) with a FG of 1.026. Mix included one and a half Toohey's larger extract, 800g Coopers enhancer #2, and around 700g white sugar. Included 4 scoops of Harris ground espresso (strong). On drinking fresh, coffee came through very subtle in odour, and hint in taste. Very pleasant. Not as good as the first fresh coffee brew (it had an OG of around 1.048), but need to find a way to get the FG down a bit more to get more of a lift in flavour.

Alternate brew also at high OG (1.068) with 1.5 cans of Toohey's larger extract and 1.1kg white sugar. Added a 2.5g extra yeast 5 days in after it went dead, and took 2 days for it to start up again.
