Another great example of how democratically inclined our politicians are. Blame all ills on “regressive elements” and cite “people’s movement” every step of the way to hide their own ineptness.

If anybody is hatching a conspiracy “against the outcome of the people’s movement,” it is the politicians themselves by not performing at a level necessary to build and sustain democratic norms.

Our ears hurt hearing about “freedom of speech” when these very people were on the streets protesting. Now they are demanding actions against people with differing viewpoints. Look at the sheer idiocy of the parliamentarians, who haven’t faced the voters in eight years—they are demanding that “pro-Hindu leaders, who were quite vocal in favour of the direct rule of the king, should be detained immediately.”

The agenda of these nincompoops now appears to be like this: bulldoze their own ideas through and threaten anyone with opposing viewpoints with stern actions.

Read a thing or two about democracy, you idiots, before you embarrass yourselves more with utterly irresponsible comments like these. (portions highlighted for clarity)

  `Regressive elements' active to defame democracy: Sitaula

Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula has alleged that ‘regressive elements’ are active in defaming ‘loktantra’ (democracy) in the country.

Responding to concerns expressed by the lawmakers in the House of Representatives on Thursday, Minister Sitaula said the government was aware and serious towards conspiracy against the outcome of people’s movement and to exploit even minor incidents to create anarchy.

He did not elaborate. The Minister said the government would make every attempt to contain what he called ‘extremism’ being created in the name of Hindu nationalism.

The minister is believed to be referring to pro-Hindu demonstrations going on in southern town of Birgunj and other parts of the country for the last few days.

The interior minister also urged the CPN (Maoist) rebels to stick to the 12-point understanding reached between the seven party alliance and the Maoists. He said talks between the government and the Maoists would start pretty soon.

Minister Sitaula expressed sorrow over the incidences of manhandling of medical professionals and attacks at health facilities in Butwal and Kathmandu and said the government would bring the culprits to book.

Earlier, members of parliament criticized the government towards what they called lack of sense of security and lax law and order situation in the country. They also demanded that pro-Hindu leaders, who were quite vocal in favour of the direct rule of the king, should be detained immediately.

Minister Sitaula did not comment on such demands. He, however, warned that the government would not let anyone-- who, he said, were engaged in conspiracy against democracy from behind the curtain--to go scot-free.
