| CALLING ALL BOTANISTS!! (or anyone else who'd like to collect seed) The Northeast Native Seed Initiative was formed by a group of agencies across Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Northern New York. Its goal is to develop a sustainable supply of seeds of native species with relatively local genotypes that can be used in restoration and erosion control. Twelve species were selected by the NNSI for seed collection in 2009. Seeds will be provided to a grower who will grow them out in order to produce a larger seed supply. We need your help to make the first year's seed collection from our region. If you are interested in helping to collect seed, please contact Dorothy Allard at dallard@aol.com. If you want information on how to collect seed, click here. If you want to learn about sites for seed collection, click here. | Species Fact Sheets** Elymus canadensis (Canada wildrye) Elymus virginicus (Virginia wildrye) Poa palustris (fowl meadow-grass) Rudbeckia hirta (black-eyed Susan) |
