Compare and Contrast Essay

Arizona State University and Utah Valley University are completely diverse, but very alike, schools.  Many differences include weather and sports.  At the same time, many similarities are weather and sports as well.  When think about Arizona, what may come to mind are hot areas perfect for taking a swim.  When thinking of Utah, what may come to mind is snowy, cold, Mormon land.  These assumptions are correct, but there is more to it than that.

Whether the weather in these two areas is the same or not, it all really matters of what time of the year is included into the equation.  In Utah it is frigid and snowy during the winter, but during the summer is it hot as hot can be.  So really Utah is similar to Arizona in that during the summer they are both unusually warm.  Then again, Arizona is at least warm all year round, with a slight chance of rain.

Arizona provides women with more sports than UVU provides them with.  In contrast ASU offers gymnastics, tennis, swimming and diving, and water polo while Utah does not.  All the sports offered in all by both schools are basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, track and field, and volleyball.  Utah covered all the basic sports which is important, but Arizona hit it out of the ball park with some secretly desired sports which give students options.

When people say Utah the reaction to it is “Mormon country?”  Although there is a majority of Mormons in Utah, at UVU anyone is welcome; it is not like Brigham Young University where you must be Mormon to be accepted.  Religiously Arizona State and Utah Valley are complementary.

The housing at Arizona State is completely diversified from Utah Valley by its housing.  Arizona provides housing for the students, for the cost of an arm and a leg of course, but Utah does not.  UVU is similar to a community college in that it accepts everyone and it does not provide housing for its students, but it has the characteristics of a four year university; Arizona State also has the characteristics of a four year university.

In the end Arizona State University and Utah Valley University are not the same school, so there are going to be differences.  Differences are what make the world go round, and with out them we would all look the same and get each other confused with the next person that walks by.  Differences are good, but similarities are important too, or else no one would relate or want to be around anyone else.
