Considering the numerous amount of majors available for a student at ASU it is difficult to know what one may want to do for the rest of his or her life.  Not only are there an abundant amount of majors, but there is a large scale of minors, increasing the difficulty of choosing the desired field of work.  A minor is simply a major but of lesser importance or rank; a major is a subject of study chosen by a student to represent his or her interest and constitutes a large share of his or her efforts.  Interesting fields of study at ASU are Criminology and Psychology, which may be combined to form Criminal Psychology.  A minor that may have caught the attention of someone who is interested in Criminal Psychology is that of Philosophy.

Psychology and Criminology are two very different subjects put together to form Criminal Psychology.  Criminal Psychology in definition is “the study of wills, thoughts, intentions, and reactions of criminals” (Wikipedia 2008).  This field may lead to a job in profiling for the police or the government.  Profiling aids in figuring out what type of person the criminal may be.  Psychology is “an academic and applied discipline involving the scientific study of mental process and behavior” (Wikipedia 2009).  The psychological side helps knowing the humanistic behaviors of the criminal, and the criminological half of this field helps know the crimes of the criminal.  Criminology is the study of crime, and most lawyers or detectives have to have a degree in this field in order to be employed by any investigative company, for example the FBI.

To take advantage of the resources at ASU, a difficult responsibility to take on is a minor.  Philosophy is “the study of general problems concerning matters such as existence, knowledge, truth, beauty, justice, validity, mind, and

language”(Wikipedia 2009). The minor provides students with “a capacity of critical thinking and analytical reasoning, and the ability to present one’s positions through oral and written communication” (Arizona State University 2007).  The minor will give assistance to the student’s ability to publicly speak, which will help in front of a jury if the student were put on stand as a witness.  The abilities of analysis and critical thinking, given through this minor, will aid the student in tracking and capturing a criminal.
