Dear Club Secretary,

Please find enclosed the new coach education calendar for the forthcoming season.

Please could you return applications for the courses ASAP, you will be able to download these from the Welsh Football Trust website.

Following the meeting on Wednesday 29th July a 4v4/5v5 game day practice will be set up with me showing how to set the pitches up and show how the games will operate on Sundays.

Also we have now been granted to deliver a 4v4 workshop on Thursday 3rd September 2009. This is a free workshop which is part of the new coach education calendar and I would suggest that all U7 and U8 managers attended. This workshop will count towards the re-validation of there FAW Football Leaders Award.

Kind Regards,

GWENT LADIES ON THE BALL!

A female only regional Football Leader’s course has been organised by the local FDO’s and will take place on Sundays, 7 and 14 June 2009 at Cwmbran Stadium.

The course is being sponsored by McDonald’s in support of their ‘Mums On The Ball’ campaign.  Free* places will be offered to the first 25 candidates in Gwent who complete and return their application forms.

McDonald’s is the country’s biggest supporter of grassroots football and they have recently kicked off their ‘Mums On The Ball’ campaign aimed specifically at mothers who may not have thought football coaching was not for them.  Well it is!

Sir Geoff Hurst MBE, World Cup Winner and McDonald’s Director of Football certainly thinks so…

“Mums on the Ball will help mums rethink the role they can play in grassroots football, encouraging them off the touchline and on to the pitch itself.  Mums know how to engage children, how to speak their language and how to motivate them – I can’t think of a better starting point for a grassroots coach”.

The Gwent Football Leader’s course, however, is not solely aimed at mums.  Applications are invited from any female within the region interested in becoming a junior football coach.

Neil Ward, General Manager of the Welsh Football Trust says:

“The Trust is delighted to support the McDonald’s ‘Mums On The Ball’ campaign.  One of the Trust’s key objectives is to encourage more female volunteers to take up grassroots coaching.  They can play a key role in encouraging more children to participate in football.  This campaign should highlight the important contribution they can make and give them the confidence to get involved”.

For an application form and further details please contact Christine Philpott 01633 628936 or your local Football Development Officer in the following areas for any advice or information:

  • Torfaen – Jeff Thomas
  • Monmouthshire – Andy Beattie
  • Newport/Blaenau Gwent – James Rowberry
  • Caerphilly – Wesley Bodden
