The development of the NC WeBIEE region is a direct result of North Carolina K-20 faculty, staff, and institutions expressing interests in networking, collaborating, and augmenting their array of instructional capabilities within a virtual world setting. As a result of this input and energy, and through support provided by the North Carolina Community College System's Virtual Learning Community Technology Center and Professional Development Center, the NC WeBIEE virtual world environment has been created for teaching and learning purposes, as well as for related presentations, meetings, and conferences.
NC WeBIEE is a Web-Based Immersive Environment for Education which exists to facilitate the development, support, research, and offering of virtual instruction. This is being done in a manner that builds community, promotes collaboration, sharing, and exchange, and enables high quality instructional interaction and outcomes. NC WeBIEE is now evolving through cooperative initiatives and the contribution of individuals and groups regardless of institutional affiliation. In this way we are able to make available a rich and vibrant environment that would otherwise require a demanding commitment of resources for an individual institution. With the exception of the individual office spaces located in the Faculty Office Complexes on NC WeBIEE 3, all NC WeBIEE facilities are intended for common and open use by the membership of the 58 community colleges of the North Carolina Community College System as well as its K-20 educational partners and friends. Meeting spaces can be scheduled and reserved on a first-come, first-served basis for a class, meeting, or presentation. During those times the dedicated use of the space should be respected.
