Recent Updates - Technology Upgrades Approved and Funded

Based upon the recommendation of the Newport Coast technology teacher committee, the Board of the NCE Foundation approved a technology budget of more than $91,000 that includes:

1)         Upgrade and Expansion of the library Lab

The library iMac lab will be upgraded with 35 new iMac computers to accommodate the upper and lower grade classrooms.

All of the iMacs from this lab will be moved to classrooms to serve as student computers.  Each classroom will receive an iMac computer designated for student use.

2)         A Commitment to Technology Instruction in the Classroom

The Foundation made a commitment to teacher work stations.  Teacher work stations include a teacher computer, document camera, and an LCD projector.  These tools support our teachers in excellent instruction in the classroom.

The funds from the Capital Campaign are a wonderful start to upgrading NCE's technology needs with the purchase of an increased number of computers for each classroom. Our goal is to get more computers in all the classrooms. Your ongoing support is imperative to making this goal a reality.

Thank you for your financial commitment to the NCE Education Foundation.  These purchases will serve to improve academic achievement at Newport Coast.

What is the Foundation?

The Newport Coast Elementary School Foundation is a non-profit organization comprised of volunteer parents who dedicate their time to raise funds to enrich your child’s education. PTA volunteers plan and run the Annual Spring Benefit and the funds raised are dedicated to the Foundation. This is one way the Foundation and PTA work together. NCE receives the same state fund allocation as every other school district in the state and that money provides for a basic curriculum. The monies raised through your support of the Foundation allow us to provide our children with an education worthy of the California Distinguished School Award.

What does the Foundation provide in 2010-2011?
Your donations of $190,000 to our capital campaign have helped fund the following.

- $90,000 commitment to Technology upgrades

- 2 Teachers on Special
Assignment (TOSAS). TOSA's are necessary to provide instructional
support in order to implement our school wide PLC program.
(The Foundation does not provide instructional support.)

- Art Masters

- Additional Crossing Guard

How your generous donations have helped to produce results

Due to the excellent leadership by our Principal, the talented teacher and support staff, and your generous donations great results are now a consistent theme at Newport Coast Elementary. The majority of the money raised by the Foundation is used to fund the cutting-edge PLC program for which NCE has been recognized as a model school. Since the implementation of these PLCs, the API test scores at NCE have increased by 46% and are now the highest of any elementary school in the District.

What you can do to help

The Foundation respectfully requests each family with a student at NCE make a donation of $600 per child. Despite an increased need, we are asking for the same donation amount we did last year with the hope that we can raise more money through increased participation from NCE parents. Your tax-deductible donation can be made via check, cash or credit card and can be broken down into nine monthly payments of $67 (a little over 2 dollars a day). Thus, for a small commitment, you can help ensure that our children continue to receive an exemplary education. Donations of less than $600 per child are also welcome and appreciated. If you are willing to help, please send your donation along with the donor card and envelope. We thank you in advance for your generous support.

Thank you in advance for your generous support.

Sincerely,

Your Newport Coast Elementary Foundation Board Members
Maria Heropoulos, Brian Murphy, Nancy and Bob Thompson, Edward Birn, Stan Dreyfuss, George Roletter
