I was shocked when my father phoned our home to say that he did not know where he was. Of course I immediately got worried and began to panic. I was scared he was going senile! This could not be happening, he was a taxi driver. And I started to ask hime a bunch of questions quickly and with concern. What's near you, can you see any restaurants, is there anyone around that can help you, are there street signs, did you cut off the car? Grrr! It was a complete surprise and relief when he said, "Rabbit, there are some new streets on this side of town and I'm not sure where my turn to get to the range is. What, did you think your old man was getting old?" I was relieved to find out he was still in his right mind.

At the next opportunity, I went to several retail location to look for a GPS my dad could use. It had to be easy because let's face it, he pulls over, gets out of the car and looks up our phone numbers in his hand written address book to use his 'programmed by me' cell phone. I'm sure if it weren't for me he'd still be carrying around that prehistoric 20 lb bag phone.

Well after two thousand questions to over a dozen clerks, and store attendants, I finally found the Navigon 2100T portable GPS. I love that it's portable. He can take with him in his car, or he can take it with him in his truck. Too small like the Magellan Roadmate,or it's also not big and bulky like the Cobra GPSM 2500. Whatever, he wears bifocals.

Navigon 2100T portable GPS also has excellent 3D graphics! I wasn't able to find this on any of the models I looked at. You know what it does that I find amusing, it gives a very realistic look to the roads. This will make my dada attempts at navigation a lot easier.

It also comes with "test to speech" technology. Now that is a fantastic feature of this product. Some GPS systems will tell you to turn long before you actually need to. This nifty device tells you exactly which way to turn and on which street. My dad knows streets. Its not more than 15 miles. He would not even dream of pushing the little button that allows you to see how far you have gone in the car. Once you have made your turn onto the wrong road, it takes about five minutes until you realize you wanted the next left. But not with the Navigon 2100T portable GPS system.

If you want to get traffice control a nice feature to upgrade to is the replaceable SD card. That way it you are having difficulties it can provide you with different ways to get to your location.

Not to mention, the price wasn't bad at all. I finally got two on Amazon for a little over $300.00 I needed one also. My dad was way better with Navigon 2100T portable GTS than me, in less time than a month he had it figured out.
