Alexandra (Alee) Scott is a second year U of Calgary Communications Studies Major and French Minor.

Working towards a career in broadcast journalism, next year she will be at SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology), commencing her Broadcast News diploma. In preparation for SAIT, she volunteers regularly as a reporter and host at the University of Calgary’s television station, NUTV (New University Television).

This is Alexandra's first community service-learning (CSL) project and thus brings her excitement to learn more about this unconventional learning strategy, as well as her dedication to profiling past CSL experiences in a genuine, unbiased way.

Ann Pham is a fourth year Communications Studies major.

In her third year at the University of Calgary, she took a detour and enrolled in the Cooperative Education program, taking a year off to complete an internship at a non-profit organization. While on this work term, she gained practical skills in event planning, technical writing, and project management. She is returning to this organization as a volunteer in spring 2010.

Prior to COMS 463, Ann first experienced community service learning in General Studies 313 – Interdisciplinary Research Methodology. It was from this course that she gained an appreciation for experiential learning and education for sustainable development. She hopes that she can inspire other students to get involved in CSL... something she considers a good cause.

Bryce Kapsha is a fourth year Communications Studies and Latin American Studies major.

In 2008, Bryce took his first CSL course where his class was partnered with the University of Calgary Office of Sustainability. During the semester he gained invaluable researching skills.

He is also actively involved on campus through the Office of the Student Experience where he has been an Orientation Leader for the three years, learning some leadership and community-building skills in the process. As well, Bryce is employed part-time as a Team Leader at Child and Youth Friendly Calgary.
Jen Reid has a diverse range of experience as a web and graphic designer, technical writer, editor and videographer, and an education in television
production from SAIT. She also recently volunteered with the web communications team of the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

In the final semester of her Bachelor of Communications Studies (using the University of Calgary/SAIT partnership), she hopes to develop skills in leadership, organizational communication and management to her technical strengths.

Jen is currently also experiencing CSL, assisting the Calgary Roughnecks lacrosse team with ticketing and promotions research for GNST313 this semester.
