Guest Speaker Nominations

Its time to nominate a guest speaker to come and talk to our department.  This year it will be a slightly harder task with the university wide budget cuts to obtain funding, however we are still determined to succeed in continuing the 3rd annual Graduate Student Seminar.

For those of you who are new, or those of you who have forgotten: each year we as a student body nominate and elect a guest speaker to come to our university and talk to our department.  We have had a seminar, break out sessions, lunches, receptions, one-on-one meetings, field trips etc. with the guest.  Our first year was a grand success with Dr. Sharon Collinge and then last spring was Dr. Dan Simberloff.

The process:
Nominate a guest you would like to have come talk to our department.  This can be anyone from anywhere. The goal is to have a broader impact on all aspects of our department.  Someone who can reach more than just one field.  Think Big Picture.  Think even outside of
our field BUT linked some how, like book writers, political commentator's, or activists. (Basically they do not 'have' to be scientists).  Past names for inspiration: Richard Knight, Carla D'Antonio, Kay Holekamp, Camille Parmesan, Gerardo Ceballos, Gretchen Daily, David Quammen the list goes on....

In your nomination include a short bio or cut and past from their web page or include a web page. Once we have a list, we will post short bio's and send an email with that information so you can decide who you would like to see come. We will then vote.  We are starting this now because in the spring we will send out the invitation to this person.  As some of you may realize, we have been turned down by professors in the past when not given enough of a heads up.

Please email snrgrads@gmail.com your nominations(and short bio's) by November 10th
