Volunteering Oppurtunities

NSA,
I recently received your contact information and would love to acquaint, or re-acquaint, you and the Alliance with the Denver Indian Center. Right now there are many opportunities for the Alliance to get involved with our center. We at the DIC serve hundreds of youth and families through-out the year and recognize the importance of utilizing volunteers, especially ones that are good role models!

If you are interested, there are many things that can happen in the near future:

  1. Our youth programming is ongoing and we always could use good mentors, tutors, and volunteers to assist with the programs that include things like recreation, science, culture and other programming. We offer homework help in our computer lab Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s from 4-6 p.m. and extra help is always helpful. We would also welcome exciting science experiments or talents that the Alliance members may offer. We are trying to spark interests as well in science and math.
  2. We will definitely take you up on the offer to have a college tour, visitation or shadowing opportunity at Denver University. College and career exploration is a huge component of our youth program, and we hope to have at least one college visit per year.
  3. We host numerous events in which volunteers are always needed:
    1. Holiday Feed and Toy Drive – Every year we serve over 500 local American Indians during our Holiday Celebration. This year on December 12th we will again feed and provide Santa and Toys. How to help:

                                                              i.      Organize a food and toy drive

ii.      Help raise other necessary resources and gain more volunteer support

iii.       Come to the event and volunteer in the kitchen, toy giveaway, or other events

    1. Powwows – There is a Masquerade Powwow in October, and a Veteran’s Powwow in November. Again, extra help is always welcome as we run concessions, contests and maintain the event.

Alicia, just call me to schedule volunteers at any of the above opportunities or to discuss further.

If you have to commute by bus, you can take the light rail to Broadway station. You then transfer to the 11 bus goint to Lakewood commons (west). You ride the bus to West Kentucky Avenue and South Vrain Street. It's a few blocks to walk on Morrison Street. It's not too far to walk. Here is the rtd link, you can go to the 'trip planner' tab for help. http://www.rtd-denver.com/
