Sarah McLachlan
Third Day

Defying explanation, these artists - and I use that word in its purest form, with all connotations  -  always throw me for loops with new albums.

From their lyrics, through to their songs, to their obvious talent, to their ability to compose a rock solid album.

Now, the classical composers often didn't write lyrics, but consider sheer quantity let alone genius quality, and obvious Napoleon  Dynamite'esque skills ....enough to make me jealous of them in just about every regard.

Newly appreciated music:

In Recent Months ...

Air

Bela Fleck & the Flecktones

    Maceo Parker

The New Amsterdams

Parliment

Ray LaMontagne

Seventh Day Slumber

In Recent Years...

  • Broken Social Scene
  • Cocteau Twins
    • of the Euro, trip-hop genre, they mix synth, mystery, creativity and calming VERY WELL for my taste
  • Coheed and Cambria
    • I have high expectations for the next album...  Similar band The Mars Volta haven't grown on me yet, but The Appleseed Cast is pretty decent!
15 April 2007 -I have lost my palate for Coheed and Cambria due to the lack of realism in their lyrics. Good for times when one wants to be distracted, but no good for focus.

  • David Gray
  • Death Cab for Cutie
    • the lead singer also spun-off into The Postal Service, but Death Cab is much cooler.
  • Erykah Badu
  • Frou Frou (also, Imogen Heap)
  • Gregorian chants sung by various  Monastic choirs. Embrace the homophony....  better yet, let IT embrace YOU.
  • Head Automatica (same lead singer as Glassjaw) - talented AND freekin' versatile!
  • Jimmy Eat World - in particular, the "Futures" album, non-overplayed stuff
  • Mute Math  - mathy musicians, musical mathies, all that jazz
  • Pink Floyd
  • Spearhead (feat. Michael Franti)
  • Simon and Garfunkel  - 60's music at its prime.
  • The Smashing Pumpkins - small doses only, please.
  • The Used -If you're a hater of The Used, please read my self debate arguing why they deserve respect - then e-mail me to join the debate.
    • Trophy Scars - The Alphabet Alphabets album is great. A variety of styles (see also debate of The Used).
    • Underoath  - I was surprised at this, since i only bought the CD for the breathtaking duet with Aaron Marsh of Copeland
